Living in the Nut lane

Met an 'old friend' today.

Well, more like 'old business associate', in a way.

As far as I remember, after every meeting with him, I'll be about RM 20 poorer....

T_T ~$$

nooooooooo...............

Boy was he glad to see me. (at least he appeared so)

Gave me a warm greeting, asked where I've been. Yeah, it's been a couple of months since we last met.

Told him I'm no longer at melacca......joined the government service at Kajang. Serving mankind, I joked sheepishly.

'Good, good....' came his reply. Like the Chinese say, its an iron ricebowl (stable job). In uncertain times like these, having a measly salary still beats having no pay at all.

Uncle Chestnut and his Ol' Faithful

My turn to ask him how he's holding up.

Commented about his obviously-dyed jet black hair. He chuckled. Keeps me young, he quipped.

Life? Life's tough, he lamented.

Prices are on the rise, you see. Higher costs translates into higher prices.

Too bad not many people are willing to fork out 20 bucks for snacks nowadays.

All in a day's work...

His job, his passion, his life....

Well, I'll have non of that.

It may not sound like much, but I know this particular Rm 20 is gonna make someone a happier person today.

And that is all that matters.

And so Rm 20 given, 1.5 kg chestnuts received.

For me, food; For him, hope.....

Nature's gold...

It's good. Really good.

So kind he was, he threw in an extra treat for me, FOC. 'Old customer, cincai la....' he said.

Perks for being a loyal customer....

I bid him farewell, he wished me all the best in my career.

I guess we both gained something from this transaction.

Not to mention the obvious fact that I've got myself some grub, but I felt a happier person after our brief encounter.

As for him.....RM 20 might not seem like a whole lot, but I wish it gave him just that little boost he needs to keep him going. RM 20 for Hope, to me, is worth it down to the single penny.

So there.
Chow time~
